My old key cannot be used to update the new one for parallel 12. Please help

For some reason when I finished downloading parallel 12 and was asked to input the key, it also asked for the old key. Now that I have entered the old key, it says "The product key of a previous version of Parallels Desktop has been not accepted on the license server." Hence not allowing me to use the key I have bought, can someone please help me with this problem?
