I have Windows 7 VM on Parallels 10. After the restart and entering my current VM password I'm prompted to change a password b/c my current password has expired. After I enter a new password I get the error message "The system detected a possible attempt to compromise security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you." that prevents me to use VM.

Previously I was able to change VM passwords without any issues.
Not sure what's going on right now.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi pauls12,
It appears like the issue occurs if TCP port 88 & UDP port 88 are blocked by network Firewall. Have you checked this Microsoft link ?

My issue appeared when trying to login, in the end it worked if I choose to login in as a new user and then it accepted the change of password. The strange thing with mine is that it is a stand alone VM with no server to log on to and is just a local user.

Exact problem as Badger in Black. I did upgrade to 12 yet was able to sign in W7 until a request for new password. (today) I also updated to OSX security 10.11.6 earlier this AM before trying to access my VM.
Tried the MS support stuff yet my firewall is off on OSX El Captian.
I'm an old Geezer. When it gets technical i'm screwed.
Need help so I an access my Quicken program
    Thanks, Pat

I Have the exact same issue today. Has there been an update for parallels that is causing this issue. It seems unusual that a number of other users all have the same thing happen around the same time. Seems Parallels need to fix something in the back end asap.

In the interim how do i access mu quicken program???

How you were able to login as a new user? The only option I see is to change a user but I have only one user on that VM.

    Same here
"The only option I see is to change a user but I have only one user on that VM"
Has anyone found a solution? Parallels is useless to me if I cannot access Windows.
I had just recently upgraded to 12. Think I can get a refund?

    Thanks, Pat

Adjust the Windows virtual machine's configuration settings > Hardware > Network1 >uncheck connected & change the Windows password.
If the issue persists, please generate a Problem Report ID. We'll look into it.

I tried Guna's solution. Still receiving the same error message. "The system detected a possible attempt to compromise security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you."

Issue still happening here after attempting Guna's solution. Why has it happened to many of us. What has changed for this to become an issue. I am currently unable to do any business related invoicing or book keeping and its very frustrating.

I am running Windows 7 with all updates/patches as of August 10. Running the latest build of Parallels 10.4.0 (29337). I have the same issue and encountered this yesterday (9-12). This "error" gets triggered when the windows user Password expires and you are required to change it at the next log-in or windows restart. I only have one user account on this windows. This issue does not appear to be network related as I do not log into network shares. This windows only accesses drives connected to the local machine.

Restoring a previous virtual machine from a time Machine backup does not solve the problem (you still have the expired user password issue).

The only troubleshooting clue I can offer is that I have a 2009 Mac that I run the same version of Parallels on but have NOT run all the Microsoft updates on since about May 2016 ( in fighting Microsoft update issues earlier I had to wipe out the update history on this second machine, so no more easy info to get there regarding MS updates) . On this older machine I CAN update the expired password and NORMALLY RUN WIN 7. Best Guess is a Security Patch from Microsoft is contributing to this problem.

My win 7 password "life" is 180 days. So, Win 7 patches or Parallels updates since March 1 2016 are suspect. I would be more suspicious of MS patches from July or August

    UPDATE !!
I deleted teh bad Win-7.pvm file from parallels, sent it to the trash, emptied the trash. Then,I restored from a July 1 time machine backup of the Win-7.pvm file, opened this file in parallels, and there were errors in that so this virtual machine would not even start. The windows troubleshooter failed to fix, so this option was dead in the water. So,

Deleted this file from parallels and sent it to the trash
    Emptied the trash
Next I tried a time Machine restore of an Aug 1 2016 backup of the same Win-7.pvm file. (going to the same directory that I run the .pvm files from)
This file DID start, and of course the windows user password was expired, BUT I WAS ABLE TO UPDATE IT ! and get into this vintage of windows. I can recover from here, but it will be some work to do so.

I STRONGLY suspect August windows updated contribute to an issue here!!

The solution offered in 117557 may work for Windows 8 and 10, but I cannot find the files indicated there for Windows 7.
