I'm having trouble launching a Windows Guest OS environment, and I get this error:

Some important notes:
- Running Mac OS X 10.6.8
- I am an administrator on this machine.
- I store all VMs in /Users/Shared/Parallels.
- I am the only user on this machine, and do not
- I am using Parallels Desktop for Mac 6

I own a copy of Parallels Desktop for Mac 7, but not on this machine, and do not want to *pay* upgrade this machine.

Check the permissions and contents of the virtual machines:

cd /Users/Shared/Parallels ls -ld *.pvm; ls -lRA *.pvm

You'll need to change the permission of the files that you don't have write access to.

This issue can often be related to file permissions on the virtual machine package. Checking the ownership and write permissions of the .pvm files is a good first step, especially when the VM is stored in a shared directory. It’s also worth confirming that the current macOS user has full access to the VM folder and its contents before changing any permissions.
