Well. That is ONE thing I won't do. Update to a new Office ;-) Switched to OpenOffice a long time ago, never looked back. But I need that INS key...
Agree. I'm using MindManager win extensively (the new mac version is crippled), and you really need the INS key to work with that program. Ended up remapping INS to F11 with remapkey.exe in XP (and Expose to ctrl+F11 in OS X). Works.
On my MacBook, I also need the INS key for software I use. I asked and looked everywhere to no avail and eventually stumbled on the key combination. It's Alt+0, but the zero on the overlaid keypad, so you need to add the Apple "fn" key to get it to work. So the final key-combo is fn+alt+0 (on the overlaid keypad) Phew.
Are you sure you are typing the zero on the *keypad*? I'm on a French keyboard, and it works whether I'm using the EN or FR layout.
That would be the one. Are you holding the "fn" and the "alt" keys at the same time? All I can say is that it works for me...
imac key combination My wife just messaged me, wanting to know how to toggle on her "insert" function as she had accidentally toggled it off, so it was deleting everything in front of the cursor as she typed. Thanks to this forum, I was able to have her try "Alt" "0", with the "0" being the one on her actual number keypad. She was ecstatic after suffering thru a temporary insert function nightmare. Now she has the solution.
you should do ALT then fn NOT fn then ALT... fn then ALT tries to "fn the alt key" which is not what you want.
On my MB Pro, I found the fn+alt+M combo unreliable for an insert key. Sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. I have no idea why. For me, the solution was to download the Win2003 resource kit, and run remapkeys.exe. I had already checked "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features" in Mac Keyboard and Mouse settings, and changed F9-F12 in Dashboard and Expose to use Option F9-F12, so in Windows, I mapped F12 to Insert, and have had no more trouble with it.
