Hi, I was just wondering, if there are any problems when migrating my old pc to mac using the switch to mac kit can I use the old pc as a fall back option in case anything goes wrong or doesn't work on the mac side? I am using the switch to mac kit and parallels desktop 5. My old p.c. machine is running XP. Thanks for any pointers
I'm not an expert but what you suggest sounds all right to me. But if you add files to the Windows virtual machine running on your Mac they won't be on the Windows machine unless you copy them across. If you're running Time Machine on the Mac to back it up regularly then the virtual Windows machine will also be backed up but this isn't completely safe unless you're backing up on an external drive. And then that drive needs to be in a different building in case the one with the mac in catches fire . .etc . . etc Pragmatically, a Time Machine Mac backup plus copying across important files from the virtual Windows machine on the Mac to your old Windows machine will give you peace of mind until you trust your setup enough to scrap the old Windows machine.
