same issue here since several days

i upgradet all my apps to be ready for snowleopard. after that parallels 4 shows the same error message. tryed everything that was mentioned by all other persons here in the thread. i use little snitch (2.2.b1) and opend everything for parallels - no success. stoppin LS gave me the one time chance to start again parallels but my virtual machine did not start correct. so i decided to reboot and tryed again the same thing - stop LS but again no chance to get parallels to work anymore. i´m very sad as i don´t know what to do else to get it to work
by the way i use a german version and it is from the ParallelsDesktop-parallels-de_DE-4.0.3846.436356.dmg installation file.

please help - othervise i see only to switch to vm ware to try my best luck
what information may be important to get help from you community ?

    Similar Issue

"Unable to connect to parallels service"

Im having Networking problems with what seems to be 10.5.8 was well. We use a proprietary software package that needs to connect to a SQL database on a PC so we had it set up as a Shared Bridged Ethernet Connection.

So basically we used Parallels to use our Macs to run this PC only software that connects to another PC server on the network.

Everything was fine until I believe someone accidentally upgraded to 10.5.8. Since then we are not able to connect to our SQL server. I have deleted and recreated the network settings in OSX and in Parallels, and still nothing.

Is anyone else running into this situation?

    prl_disp_service - me too ! - who can help?

    Me too:

"Unable to connect to Parallels Service.
Make sure that prl_disp_service is running or check your firewall settings. If the problem persists, contact the Parallels support team for assistance."

The problems started after upgrading to OS X 10.6.1, OS X 10.5.x worked fine for me.
I have re-installed ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-4.0.3848.450204.dmg many times, and also tried ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9220.531002.dmg (same error).

I followed the advise of following articles without any success:
    http://kb.parallels.com/en/5772
    http://kb.parallels.com/en/5791
    http://kb.parallels.com/en/6694

Also searched this forum (not sure I read everything) and could not find a resolution of my problem.

I have paid for PL 3 and PL 4, but my 30days support time are long over. Parallels team, please help. I urgently need access to some Windows apps.

Just once, before trying some of the stuff in the KB, I was able to submit a problem report from Parallels app, the ID is 754611.

    Thanks a lot
    - Guido

Hm. For some reason Parallels is not correctly installed. Please try the following:
Mount the ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-4.0.3848.450204.dmg and choose uninstall
and after uninstall, install one more time. If this won't help, please send a problem report one more time and post here its number.

If this won't help, there will be other steps from our side

    Clarification reg. my earlier post

    thanks for trying to help!
I tried the recommended uninstall and re-install, all this did not help.

I observed non of the Parallels network interfaces had been created, also when re-installing.
I also realize I was never given a chance to enter my activation key.
So, some screw-up survived all uninstalls and re-installs on my HDD.

This makes me remember the following:
Just after installing PL4 for the very first time on my virgin SL installation , I double clicked on an old , suspended VM that I had copied from my earlier installation. -- I do not remember what happened exactly, but PL opened the VM and tried to resume it. At this point I got an error message (do no longer remember what). -- I suspect something with PL's activation system screwed up this moment, and this screw-up survives all uninstall and re-install operations.

I have 'fixed' the problem by doing a complete re-install of my OS. Waiting was just not an option for me. I rather spent a day or so on re-installing everything :-(

    Parallels Team, some constructive feedback:
I never used your tech support with PL3 and PL4. Now, when upgrading from Leopard to SL, I would have needed it , it was a not so nice experience to discover that only the first 30days after registration are covered by tech support via email or phone. Why don't the 30days start ones the customer makes use of tech support first time? - This would have served me much better.
