Update: decided on installing windows 10 in new VM rather than just upgrading. Reason: my old Windows 7 vm may have been corrupted because I, was having issues with a couple of programs I am not having under Windows 10. Plus the size of my win7 VM was 180gb while my new win10 VM is barely 20gb. With the same software installed.

Thanks for all the advice on the upgrade.

    Hi RLDumfries,

We are glad to hear that you have decided to create a new VM. Yes, the size of the VM will be big if you have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as all the downloaded Windows updates file will be occupying much space which can be cleaned. Refer this article but if you create a fresh VM the space consumed will be much less.

    Thanks,
    Ajith M.
