    Tools Problem

I've had this problem for a while, although, until the GA, I was the only one. I'm not sure what's causing it, but it is certainly software that is interfering, since a reinstall of OSX fixed it. I never did figure out which software was causing the trouble, but it has reappeared for me in this build.

I also had crashes after upgrading to Parallels 3.0. Not sure if that was the case, but after wiping my Windows Applications folder in VM dir I see no crashes anymore. Could that be the problem?

The crashes I experienced after the upgrade during the tools installation were solved after deleting the Windows Applications folder. :) :) :)
Now I'm going to try the 3D game Revolt and have a blast (I hope).

Well! After deleting the Windows Applications folder, my Parallels Tools install successfully completed. Restarting Windows now to see if things actually work. Thanks for the tip!

Turns out that didn't do it. Rebooted Windows and Parallels crashed as soon as the startup chime played. :(

    Sheppy,

Please attach your VM's .pvs configuration file here.

    Is this new crash persistent?

This crash happens every time I try to start Windows. It happens both with a VM I upgraded from Parallels Desktop 2.5 and with a fresh VM I just created.

I've attached the .pvs file from the 2.5 upgraded VM; I threw away the other one after I couldn't get it to work.

    Eric,

Is this a clean VM? Which applications have you run inside the VM after it had been installed? Did it begin to crash immediately after first login? Immediately after tools installation? Or at some other place?

Please zip the Windows Applications folder in your VM dir and send it to [email protected] email address. I still have a strong feeling that the problem is somewhere there.

The VM whose .pvs file I posted is the one I've been using for a year now. It crashes somewhere around 2-3 minutes after starting it up, even once I did finally manage to get the Tools to install successfully.

I've launched no applications in it (other than the Tools updater) since upgrading to 3.0 because it hasn't stayed running long enough for me to do so.

I deleted the Windows Applications folder, which let me install the tools successfully, but the same crash started happening again immediately upon my next boot (while "loading personal settings" during the Windows login sequence).

Looking right now, my Windows Applications folder is empty. Here are the files in my VM's directory:

    Microsoft Windows XP Home
    winxp.hdd
    Windows Applications/ (empty)
    Windows Disks/
    C (alias)
    Microsoft Windows XP Home.mem
    Microsoft Windows XP Home.pvs
    unattended.fdd

    That's it.

Deleting the Windows Application folder in the VM didn't do anything for me. I'm still getting the same crash. Its a fresh install of XP, and I haven't installed anything at all yet.

I too installed a fresh copy of XP and still cannot get the tools installed properly. I've done this twice now. First attempt, I installed XP (original disc, no service packs) and then immediately attempted to install the tools. They failed. I then tried upgrading to SP2 and that went badly (kept getting "Data Error" mid-way through install and BSoD's on successive reboots). The next attempt, I reinstalled XP fresh, installed SP2 and all patches. Attempted a tools install, same thing, crashes just near the end. There is no Windows Applications folder within my VM folder at this point, just the pvs file and the hdd file (and the mem file when it crashes, but I have done attempts from a clean shutdown/restart).

If it helps any, booting up after the tools install crashes provides some tools support. Mouse, video, coherence work. Drag and drop doesn't work and I noticed that "Shared Clipboard" and "Network Driver" were disabled in the tools app in windows. I was able to enable shared clipboard, but when trying to enable the network driver it said the driver couldn't be installed. Not sure if this helps any, just want to get this resolved.

Yeah, thats exactly whats happening to me. I see it with Vista as well.

    To the Parallels Team --
Is there a way to turn on more verbose logging or something, so I can give you more info on just what exactly is going on?

So, I noticed something odd after upgrading to 4128. I can upgrade the Parallels tools in an existing and working XP image, but when I create a fresh XP machine with Windows Express, I get the crashing problem.
