Hi... Over the past few months, to see whether they offered me any useful fall back solutions, I have made three different snapshots at three different times... In Snapshot manager two of those are just called "Snapshots" and one is called "SmartGuard Snapshot"... My guess is this last one was made since I updated to Parallels 4.0 and the other two were made back under Parallels 3.0.. I now want them gone as I want my disk image to be smaller... It's grown way to large (almost 40 Gbytes)... I am soon to run out of hard disk space although I do have tons of external drive space... Nonetheless, I want to remove these snapshots and recover the disk space they eat up...

If I go into Snapshot manager and ask to delete the first two (the two older ones just called "Snapshot), after confirming that I want to do that, a few seconds later they are gone... However, the multi-Gbyte files associated with these Snapshots DON'T go away... So how does one ever get rid of those file segments??? I see the files inside the package of the .hdd file but what ever gets rid of them???

But there's even a worse problem... The third snapshot, the one called "SmartGuard Snapshot"... When I try to delete that one in the Snapshots manager, the screen dims, a worthless progress bar appears (worthless because it isn't a bar that ever fills left to right so you have no way of knowing whether anything is really happening or not), it says "deleting" and then it just sits there forever... Well, I've waited one half hour and without anything to tell you that something is really happening, I give up... Anyone know how to deal with these SmartGuard Snapshots???

Growing desperate (and somewhat tired) I then decided to try to deal with this manually... I went into the package contents of the VM file and tossed both the Snapshots Folder and the Snapshots.xml file... Then I went further inside, into the file contents of my .hdd file... In there I found four large files (.hds files) which from studying the dates, etc., I was able (I think) to determine that one of these was the current so I kept that one and that the other three were related to these Snapshots so I moved those to the trash... I then also edited the "DiskDescriptor.xml" file (remember I'm getting desperate here plus I have this entire .pvm file backed up elsewhere) to remove what appeared to be the reference to these three files I just moved to the trash...

And as expected, when i tried to restart the VM, it wouldn't work... Worth a try but I didn't have much hope of success...

My real goal is to get the .pvm file back to a more reasonable size from its current 40+ GBytes... How do I do that??? How do I get rid of these unwanted snapshots in a way that actually works???

If all else fails I will throw all this away and start over...

Any help would be much appreciated...

    thanks.. bob..

It would be a good idea to back up Virtual machine, and use Parallels Image Tool to merge Snapshots
But as you edited DiskDescriptor.xml file,
Just leave file mentioned there, other hds you can move temporary to external hdd
    Anyway, backup Vm
