When I have Parallels open, the Mac OS doesn't recognize a DVD or CD placed in the drive. I cannot see it in Finder or Open it. On the Windows side, I can open it, eject it, etc. When I close Parallels, Mac can see it.

Why is this happening and can I do anything to fix it?

    Thanks,

    David

Virtual Machine fails to install guess operating system

    My problem is similar.

I configure a new / clean virtual machine fine. I start the guest OS installation, add my windows cd key and get to the part where I'm asked to insert my windows installation DVD. I insert the disc in my macbook pro and nothing happens, disc is not recognized. I can't continue past this step. I tried to create an .iso of the windows installation DVD using the apple Disk Utility app but it was also not recognized through that app either. Looking at the above post I'm going to try the iso again as I can't recall if parallels 5 was running when i tried before. If it works I'll post update.

    Hi, All.
Just disconnect your dvd drive from VM (you can find it at documentation).
