Workaround for built-in iSight failure in OSX (build 3170)

Thanks -- this part fixed it for me. I wondered what was going on this morning when Parallels announced, two or three times, that it couldn't connect to my iSight, and then it disappeared from the USB connection list in Parallels. This afternoon, when I went to use the iSight with Photo Booth...

    Suspend vs. Shut Down

I was excited to use Boot Camp with Parallels, but then with this new beta, suspend is SO FAST that I've completely stopped using the Boot Camp partition. It is completely worth it. On a 2ghz Core Duo MacBook, I think it takes less than 15 seconds to completely come back from a suspended...

My fix for the dreaded "hal.dll" is corrupt/not found

I read a lot of the threads about this issue (it came up when I tried to boot into my bootcamp partition, which failed with the error in the title), but none of them directly solved my issue. Here's what I did: I happened to have another bootcamp backup on a separate HD, so I copied the...

iSight support now that BootCamp has it?

Nice detective work. I wondered why Parallels was able to see the iSight before the bootcamp upgrade but not after. I guess we might be waiting for two things now: another iSight firmware update and USB 2.0 support in Parallels. Cheers. -Chris

    Got my smartcard working

Have you installed the USB drivers for the CAC reader? I actually have a CAC reader that I bought on my own (made by Athena), not the one issued by the Navy. You might want to search around for the drivers for your model and see if you can install them. -Chris

    Got my smartcard working

Glad to hear you got that working. Here are the steps I took to get webmail access. I have the CAC Reader CD my Navy unit gave me, and if you don't have that you need to download it from the Navy's website. I'm a reservest and can download it through the Navy Reserves web site (but have to be...

    Got my smartcard working

Yes, you're correct -- I guess I am so used to the Terminal that I didn't think about Activity Monitor! That should work fine. -Chris

    Got my smartcard working

I just got my new macbook yesterday, and today I installed Parallels, hoping I could get my smartcard to work (NMCI, the Navy's smartcard solution to the DOD requirements). I was scratching my head about why I couldn't connect the reader to Parallels, but then I remembered that OS X captures...
