YanaYana, that is what I have been doing all along! Anyway two days after my previous post it stopped doing it again, and has been OK since. As before I can see no reason why it comes and goes like this.

Just started happening again, out of the blue after ten days of opening directly. No associated change. Yes same error when double clicking on the VM in documents folder

I don't know what is happening, but the alias on the desktop is now working fine. Not aware of changing anything that could have affected this.

Thanks for replying, but both these options just result in the message that the VM is already registered and can't reregistered twice (as in first post), with no option to proceed. Do they work for you?

I thought this was a really simple question! Let me rephrase it: Is it possible to have an icon on the desktop for each of my VMs (Win 7 and XP) such that I click on the icon and the VM starts up immediately? Thanks

I deleted the desktop icon put there during install, but would like it back. I thought I could create an alias to the actual VM, and put it on the desktop, but when I do this and double click on the icon, I get a message that the VM is already registered. No problem with the VM launching...

It sounds like XP installed in a VM, but has problems, and that Windows 7 never installed. It is very difficult to know what is wrong, but I would advise deleting your VMs, uninstalling Parallels and starting completely over. Make sure you are using the latest version of Parallels. Just...

There was a long thread about this when the beta came out. I had the problem then, and the fix (in the thread) was the same for the RC release last week...for me.

Problem Solved I uninstalled Parallels tools then reinstalled them, and all was well. Previously I had simply run the Parallels tools installer again, without uninstalling first. Mike
