It is definetly bug because on my XP box Parallels with idle guest XP consuming 1-2% only.
Try to download Beta2 - number of networking issues were fixed there.
I've never ever tried to use other than HPFS with OS/2 guest. It is really really cool FS. No comparison with FAT.
Describe your VM configuration please. I suggest you to create typical VM using wizard and choose "other linux 2.6" OS type.

Parallels can't be moved from the place where it was placed by installer.
Try to: 1. Close Parallels. 2. Inser CD. 3. Start Parallels again. 4. Open/Create VM configuration. 5. Start VM.
What do you mean by "VM session would die"? VM application crash or guest OS fail to boot? Which guest OS by the way?
After booting from freedos.fdd you should do following prior to Win9x installation: 1. Run fdisk.exe and create partiotion and make it active....

You can use Acronis True Image or Semantec Ghost to transfer disk image from one disk to another.

It will definetly be included in GA release. Because both GA Linux and Windows versions includes it.
Try to use default guest configuration - 256M. At list during installation. I suspect that FC5 distro could take some different execution path...
