When I installed Ubuntu 16.04 under Parallels 12 by selecting New > Free Systems > Ubuntu, the name for the root user is automatically created as "parallels" during the installation. Is there a way to change this name for the root user during installation?

Thanks for the suggestion. I also found that if I drag an icon on the Mac desktop into the trash, it will be removed there but will still remain visible on the Windows desktop.

Just a follow-up, though: Are the Windows desktop icons supposed to appear on the Mac desktop as well? I do always see Mac desktop items on the Windows desktop. What is the expected normal behavior?

Hi Arun, thanks for the reply. Actually as a quick workaround I just dragged the icons from the Windows desktop into its taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which caused the icons to disappear from the Mac desktop. If I run into the issue again, I'll return here and post the screenshots. Thanks...

I made one omission -- after deleting the files/folders in SoftwareDistribution, I then reenabled Windows Update in Services. I've edited the list in my post above to reflect this.
