    Error while installing DOS 5.0

Unfortunately, at the VM Configuration menu it will not let me change items on the Hardware page such as the Boot Order until I "shut down" the VM. However, I can't find a way to shut down the VM. DOS doesn't have a "shut down" menu choice as, for example, Windows does. If I ctrl-click on the...

    Error while installing DOS 5.0

Yes, I know it probably seems like a jurassic technology, but I have a good reason for wanting to install DOS 5.0 under Parallels Desktop 14.0.1. However, I'm encountering an error and am hoping there might be someone who can suggest ideas. I'm using the method described in message #12 in the...

Will Apple's Migration Assistant move Parallels and my VM's seamlessly?

I have Parallels Desktop 14 on a spring 2015 MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave, with two VM's -- Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux. Next week I should be receiving a new MacBook Pro from Apple. The first thing I will want to do is to migrate all of my apps, files, data, content, settings, etc from the...

Displaying Mac, Windows screens on two monitors?

I see that there, thanks. However, I also noticed that when I start a new Parallels session with Windows 10 with the external monitor attached, Parallels appears to remember my last screen layout and puts the Windows frame on the external monitor, the Mac desktop on the MacBook's built-in...

Displaying Mac, Windows screens on two monitors?

Thanks, that seems to work pretty well. Windows 10 defaults to opening in full-screen mode, so I need to exit from that before I can drag it over (I gather that is your first instruction, switching the normal window mode). Where do you normally do that?

Displaying Mac, Windows screens on two monitors?

I'm using Windows 10 under Parallels Desktop 13 in coherence mode in macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 on my MacBook Pro. I just bought a free-standing HDMI video monitor. I'd like to plug it into the HDMI port on the MacBook Pro, and set things up so that a Windows 10 window appears on the external...

Running clock software in Windows under Parallels

I'm using Windows 10 in Parallels Desktop 13, and need to get the PC clock set precisely to support some software I'm using. Although the time from my host Macbook's clock function is sometimes accurate enough, it appears as though it is not always so. It was suggested that Windows users...

    Fixing a Windows XP install

I'm using Parallels Desktop 13.1.1 under macOS 10.13.1 on a MacBook Pro, and have virtual machines installed for Windows 10 and Ubuntu. Today I tried to install a VM for Windows XP in order to support a special-purpose USB device that doesn't work with newer versions of Windows. Based on...

Moving pvm files into a Dropbox folder?

Thanks. That's what I'm actually doing right now (backing up with Time Machine). I was hoping for a more automated approach that wouldn't require me to do anything, but I guess I can keep going with Time Machine if need be.

Moving pvm files into a Dropbox folder?

Paul Chris, thanks for the explanation. Are there any other relatively automated backup systems that work well with Parallels .pvm files? Perhaps iCloud?

Moving pvm files into a Dropbox folder?

Meena, thanks for the information. Just out of curiosity, why is it not recommended?

Moving pvm files into a Dropbox folder?

I'd like to move my pvm files for Parallels Desktop 13 to a folder in the Dropbox file area on my MacBook so that they will have a guaranteed backup. Is this permitted? If so, what do I need to do to make this change?

Transferring my Windows VM to a new MacBook

Thanks! That's great to know that the process is so simple.

Transferring my Windows VM to a new MacBook

I've been installing and tweaking a pretty substantial amount of software to my Windows VM running under Parallels Desktop 13 on a MacBook running macOS 10.12.6. It's possible that in a year or so I'll be upgrading to a new MacBook. When this happens, is there an easy way to transfer my...

    Parallels auto-launches Windows when started

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, when I turned on the MacBook and launched Parallels, it now behaves normally and does not auto-launch Windows 10. Perhaps a power-off reboot of the laptop helped? So, problem is solved -- thanks again for the advice.

    Parallels auto-launches Windows when started

Thanks. In that configuration box for Windows, Start Automatically was already set to "Never." So I instead selected "Start up and shut down manually" instead of "Custom." I then closed and restarted Parallels, but unfortunately the behavior is continuing and Windows 10 auto-starts when...

    Parallels auto-launches Windows when started

I have virtual machines for Windows 10 and for Linux installed under Parallels, which I recently upgraded to Parallels 13. As of the past few days, I find that when I launch the Parallels app in the Mac OS (10.12.5), Parallels' control panel appears only briefly, and it immediately launches...

    Emulating a mouse wheel via MacBook's keyboard/touchpad?

I'm running Windows 10 under Parallels 13 on a MacBook Pro (macOS 10.12.5). One of my Windows programs requires use of the mouse's wheel to control certain parameters. However, I'm not using a mouse and don't want to connect one to my MacBook. Is there a way to emulate this via the MacBook's...

Parallels Tools update causing Windows 10 to lock up

Thanks for the detailed suggestions, much appreciated. "Share Mac user folders with Windows" was already selected and the Desktop was checked, so I went through the steps in your final paragraph to turn off Mac folder sharing, reboot the VM, reinstall Parallels Tools, shut down the VM and turn...

Parallels Tools update causing Windows 10 to lock up

So I did this: In the dock in macOS, I control-clicked the icon for the Windows session, then chose Actions > Stop. I got a warning prompt asking if I really wanted to do this, and I replied yes. It then closed Windows and Parallels. When I restarted Windows, it is no longer frozen. However...
