Well, I have the same issue and my Vista RC1 is clean. I have the exact same problem, the audio is choppy and Vista does not shut down properly.
I Installed Vista by allocating 1Gb of Ram to Vista while doing the RC1 install, and it worked fine Maybe you can try that.
