Is this a Boot Camp installation? You'll need to Repair your XP installation. I had to and it worked okay.. but Parallels could no longer work...

Right click (or Ctrl+click) and select TexEdit in the "Open With..." option. Rail
If you edit the .pvs file as indicated in the link you can specify which drive to use for the BC partition and it'll work with the drives connected.
