Uninstalling 3170 after activation key expires

Hi,

I am having problems uninstalling Parallels 3170. I want to remove Parallels from the Mac side and the Windows side and keep my bootcamp Windows XP installation, but have not got the uninstall program and the trial period of parallels has expired.

I installed 3170 in Feb 07, running Windows XP Pro from the bootcamp partition. I stopped using parallels and kept using bootcamp. I was using a trial key which has expired. Now I can't uninstall Parallels.

To uninstall it says to use the uninstall program in "Parallels Desktop 2.5.XXXX Mac.dmg", the disc image it came with. I no longer have the disc image. There are also elements of parallels in the bootcamp part which ask me to uninstall them from within parallels when i try to remove them from within Windows running in bootcamp. I can't do that as the trial has expired.

Does anyone have any ideas? Can i get "Parallels Desktop 2.5.XXXX Mac.dmg" from anywhere (or even just the uninstaller)? Is there a work around?

You can try to uninstall Parallels manually:

Go to Finder - Applications - Utilities - Terminal.
Type and run the following commands:

• sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/vmmain.kext
• sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext
• sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext
• sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/ConnectUSB.kext
• sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsnet.kext
• sudo rm -rf /Library/Parallels/
• sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.parallels.*

Hi, I need to uninstall Parallels from a MacBook Pro 2.4 IC2D running 10.5.2 (was installed and run under 10.5.1) and Windows XP Pro on bootcamp, my trial has expired and I find I cannot uninstall from the Windows side because the trial has expired.
(no issue with Parallels btw, I'm running Matlab on Windows and the CPU overhead of running 2 OS's turns my MBP into a kitchen style 'hot plate').

You do not need an activation key to uninstall Parallels. Please find the .dmg file and uninstall the software with the help of this utility.

First a correction, I have Parallels 5582.
I have run the "Uninstall Parallels Desktop", but I can't get rid of the Parallels Tools installed in Windows.
When I run "Control Panel-Add and Remove Hardware" I get a message telling me the virtual os must be running.

You can delete the Tools folder from Mac side: Mac HD -> Library -> Parallels.

I have deleted the Tool Folder on the mac side.
I am still trying to uninstall Parallel Tools on Windows side.
When I try to remove Parallels Tools on the Windows side - I get a little window in the middle of the screen titled "Parallells Tools Setup" - which contains "Parallels Tools require that your Windows is running under Virtual Machine. The installation will be stopped."

Please try the following:

- Click the Windows "Start" menu -> "Run" and type regedit. Hit OK.
- In Registry Editor, go to "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels" and delete the "Parallels Tools" entry.
- Reboot Windows.

Thanks for your help, I really didn't want to go into the registry, but having done so and removed all traces of Parallels, I have what appears to be a 'cleaned' Windows install.

I have to say, the messy uninstall of Parallels really does count against it, you really should have a 'proper' uninstall dmg/zip/exe link on your site.
