No Dropbox, and other things

Hi

In the absence of any reply I found a user manual online and have set up Snow Leopard Server as a guest OS in Parallels 10 running in Mavericks 10.9.5. It is now set up, and I've tried Convergence Mode (though without running any critical applications yet).

Questions:
  1. The manual says I should use Configure/Options/Sharing to allow the guest OS to share Dropbox by ticking the relevant box. But that box isn't there! The only thing showing in Sharing is a Share Mac box with two choices - which folders to share, and any Custom folders I want (plus a 'Map Mac volumes...' choice.) Nothing else. The iCloud/Dropbox choice which the user guide shows, just isn't there.
  2. I want to use a program that works quite well in Snow Leopard, but stutters badly in Mavericks with a lot of crashes. Its Application Support folder - with all my data in - is currently sync'd to Dropbox via symlink. So.. can I EITHER
  • sync the Application Support folder in the guest, to an equivalent folder in the host, and from there via symlink to Dropbox (how do I do that?)
OR
  • use a symlink from the Application Folder in the guest, direct to Dropbox (but then, wouldn't Dropbox empty everything else out of my host Dropbox as it would 'see' only one thing in the guest Dropbox ... or is there a way to actually SHARE the host's Dropbox without having a separate Dropbox in the guest?)
 
Hi ChrisR10, you should have an option called "Share Cloud" which has "Share cloud folders with OS X". Please share the screenshot if you are not able to see it under Sharing options.

As a ?temporary measure I've got round it by having the application and its preferences in Parallels, but keeping its Application Support folder in the Mavericks host, which seems to be allowed. The Application Support folder is sync'd to Dropbox via a symlink.

Argh. Maybe not "allowed"? Trying to drag and drop images from the host to the server (where the application is running in the server and its Application Support data is in the host) results in Parallels issuing a "fatal error" message. In all other respects the application behaves as it should, writing to the host folder.

However, this may not be due to the separate of application from its Support folder - there could be another reason? In any case, it would be good to know why the iCloud/Dropbox option doesn't show in the Configure options...

I'm looking at a similar problem, so would be interested in the fix (when they reply). Did you find out what causes the 'stutter' with the programme on screen. Just set up P12 on which I'm running Snow Leopard server and everything seems OK except for the 'stutter' or 'dragging image' when I move any of the window panes on screen while using Quark 9 (yet to try other progs). Have posted my issue on another thread, and like you waiting for a response. Cheers.

Ah, you've misunderstood me - I meant I'm using Parallels because of a (metaphorical) stutter - i.e. not working as it should - by a program called Journler. Parallels is working ok apart from one or two issues I've raised. One thing you may be experiencing is the slightly weird way Parallels handles the resolution of displays : I get a slightly blurred image of the server and its contents; however if I resize the window by dragging bottom right even slightly, Parallels redraws it sharp.
 
Thanks for the response Chris. Not being overly 'tech-savvy' I'm easily confused! The more I dig into these forums more my lack of know-how on the subject is exposed! Hey-ho.
 
You're welcome Simon. The irritating thing about these forums is the way that Parallels seem to more or less ignore them, except coming along every now and then to ask or suggest something, then disappearing again.
 
February 2nd I was asked for a screenshot, which I provided. Today is the 13th February. No follow-up.

Shame on you Parallels. Disgraceful.
 
I finally managed to resolve my problem by running the program in the guest, and when it said it couldn't find its data and asked me to either locate it or start afresh, I pointed it to its folder in the host. So now the software RUNS in the guest but WRITES to the host, via File Sharing.

I am now going to close the tab with this "discussion" in, and note how utterly disgraceful it is that after replying and asking for more information - which was supplied - there has been no further input from Parallels, who should be ashamed of their lazy staff.
