I preassume that you made all necessary adjustments in Parallels settings as well (Internet & e-mail > open in Mac) and set Chrome for default browser in OS X. I have no explanation why for you not even Safari is offered to be associated with ".url". As mentioned above for me it was offered even before using the fix. Probably interesting to know is that after applying the fix (for Parallels 12) the file association for ".url" is "internet browser" again (not Safari). I just found out now (see screenshot below -german-). So even if Safari is still offered after the fix, the standard setting is back to "internet browser" while urls are properly opened on Mac.

Yeah, the VM is configured correctly, with all of them set to "Open in Mac".
because windows 10 uses a hash algorithm to check default file extensions. The mac file extensions sometimes do not Work right with the windows security features. This is why i recommend not setting your default to "Open in MAC" but to "Safari (MAC)" Or "FireFox (MAC)". You see the difference in the setting? This natively sets the Program instead of setting it to the Mac controlled default which doesn't play well with windows security on some systems. Why im not exactly sure because i do not have the source for the application. If you do not see these options in you defaults please make sure that parallels shared applications shows up in windows.
If it does not go to you VM configuration < Options < Applications < Share windows applications with mac checked

Also be sure you are logged into windows as an administrator.

I am an administrator account, and I did have "Share Mac applications with Windows" checked. Sharing Windows applications with Mac should not be necessary (in fact, neither should be with the "Open in Mac" option being available), but I enabled it anyway and that did not make any difference. However after toggling both, I reinstalled Parallels Tools, which did make them show up, but while Safari is now an option for .url, Chrome is not (and neither is Firefox, which I also have installed on OS X):
And while "use Safari" would not actually be an acceptable answer to the problem, I tried setting it to that anyway just for testing purposes, and it didn't actually make any difference - links still opened with Edge after a restart.
Look, I do appreciate your help in trying to get this fixed, but what it comes down to is that the "Open in Mac" for web and email links is supposed to do exactly what I'm asking of it (and it did, prior to being broken in as of Windows 10 Anniversary Update). And if Parallels will not fix it, then it leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth, especially since it appears to have also affected Parallels 12, and they did in fact update that. That gives the impression that they will only support each version for barely a year and drop it as soon as a new version is released, and if that's the case, I don't think I will stick with using Parallels anymore, despite having used it since 8.
