Creating a Discovery Script

Does anyone have an example of a discovery (and the corresponding remediation) script that can be used to determine the value of a setting on a Mac?

Also, is a discovery script only capable of reporting on 1 value, or can it be used to report on multiple values?

I built my xml page using the SBI script and template. Now, I would like to add the Auto-Discovery script but I am unabe to figure what's and where is head tags.
