No success stories here for PD10?

I would like to upgrade (from PD9 to PD10), but the posts of bad experiences here are scary. No one has had any great or even just good experience?

I recently upgraded to 10 and no problems so far, for some context, I use PD for Windows based software development and have around 6 VM's of different types (Win7, 8, Server 2008, Server 2012 etc) all with vanilla guest O/S configurations.

Before upgrading I backup the VM's shut them down and remove all snapshots, the VM configs are all set to 1 CPU and max 10GB RAM - sounds counter intuitive but you get much better performance this way than maxing out the VM RAM/CPU spec.

Once a VM is started, let the VM Parallels Tools upgrade itself and then restart.

Before starting a VM with PD10 for the first time, you may want to consider turning off realtime disk optimisation and reviewing the VM config because there are new configuration options.

It works perfectly fine for me and I use it almost all day every day. My biggest issue is still the Coherence window selection bug (documented in a 9 page thread here), but other than that, it works great and fast.

Thanks so much for the articulate and very helpful replies here, Phil and Strells. My MBP Retina 13 (late 2013) 8GB/250SSD, started getting Kernel panics randomly every 2 weeks. It started after 10.9.4 and the PD9 update prior to this current one from about a week ago. Not sure if my VM is dirty now, or PD9 needs to be re-installed. I only have one VM running Win 8.1 Pro, config'd w/ 2 CPU and 3GB RAM.

Everything was fine until one of those updates I mentioned were applied. Appreciate Phil's articulate suggestions on the careful steps to take to upgrade. My kernel panic report is as follows (I did not clip other items below "sophos" (they were all Apple stuff). It's been suggested that a kernel panic like this ism is typically caused by the first line reported in the loaded kext. I would very much update to PD10 regardless, and also in further prep for Yosemite.

I suggest you run Apple Hardware Test/Apple Diagnostics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5781

Your problem might be hardware related.

Also use Disk Utility to verify your host drive and the drive on which your VM sits, and turn off realtime disk optimisation if its on, also check that you've excluded the VM from Timemachine backups

You can try the 14 days trial version of Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/122644 , if you are still in a dilemma.

I see you are running an AV, maybe that is causing problems with the installation.

The kernel panics started way before I installed Sophos, about 2 mos ago. The panic happens almost once every 2 weeks. However, the last 2 panics happened about 3 days apart, and that's after I installed Sophos last week. So maybe Sophos is now an issue, and maybe the latest PD9 update would've fixed my previous panics. Thanks.

If still you are unable to mount the Virtual hard disk. Please follow the steps given below:

>To mount the hard disk of a particular Virtual Machine, right-click this Virtual Machine's file and choose Open With > Parallels Mounter or Open With > Other > Library > Parallels >
Parallels Mounter from the shortcut menu. You can mount the Virtual Machine and hard disk.

The default paths for storing Parallels virtual machines are
/Users/<User Name>/Documents/Parallels/ and /Users/Shared.
