Performance question - Parallels 9 & Windows 7

Hi everybody,

a performance question that is also related to the best installation procedure of Parallels 9:

Is there any change/ suggestion that would make any difference in terms of performance (with same other variables, e.g. coherence, resources, etc.) between:
1) installation of win on Bootcamp and after execution through Parallels desktop (pointing to the bootcamp partition during the installation)
2) installation of win directly into Parallels WITHOUT Bootcamp (pointing to the win imag

In my opinion it is only related with the need to execute windows by itself for high resource apps or if we prefer to have the opp to boot windows by itself, but i'm reading/ hearing different opinions.

In both cases, Windows is being virtualized in the same way. The only difference is how the files are stored, either on a hard disk container or an a standard hard drive partition. As such, I would think that there would be no difference in performance. Now, obviously, running full Windows through Boot Camp gives you the full performance of the computer, so it will always perform better than virtualization.

Hi Mattia,

Windows running from Boot Camp has the following limitations:
1. It can't be paused
2. It can't be saved as a snapshot
3. It can't run in Safe Mode
4. It can't be compressed

These limitations are not applicable while installing Windows directly using the image file.
