I'm considering buying Parallels. I have a new iMac and want to know what version of Windows I should get. This is basically for home use and I don't require a lot of computing power. In looking at Windows versions, I'm very confused. I'd like to spend as little as possible but want to make sure what I get will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

practically any version of windows will run in PD. for what purpose do you need windows?
I have a couple of audio recording programs such as Total Recorder that don't have Mac versions I'd like to continue using. When you say practically any Windows version, I'm assuming you don't mean an upgrade or a boot up disk will work, correct? And there seem to be several versions of 7 and 8. Does it make a difference which one is installed?

1. upgrade disk will only work if you install a previous version of windows (like xp -> vista, etc)
2. either 7 or 8. probably home version(s) would be best since you're not doing any development. as long as your software supports it, it'll be fine.
i'd probably go with 7 home. vista is a resource hog and 8 runs best with more memory. i've had great luck with 7 on parallels.
