Crashes installing Parallels Tools

On my XP VM, which was running perfectly prior to the upgrade, the initial upgrade of Parallels Tools crashed Parallels. After a reboot, I uninstalled Tools, and installed again. This time I got a kernel panic. After running Disk Warrior to ensure the hard drive was consistent, I tried reinstalling Tools on top of the existing install. The installer crashed Parallels again.

When I access Tools after a crashed install, the Parallels Network Adapter is disabled and cannot be enabled. Trying to enable it results in a "Error installing network driver" dialog. The Parallels Network Adapter in version 2.x worked fine on this machine.

Also, clipboard sync is disabled every time I open Tools. It will enable, but will not stick.

Anyone else seeing this stuff? I'm leery of turning on any new features when the most basic ones don't work after the upgrade.

EXACTLY the same problem over here. Except that I didn't have a kernel panic. But Parallels Tools installation does crash Parallels every time. After reboot, Network Adapter and Clipboard Sync are disabled. Attempts to reinstall ntwork Adapter manually result in "Error installing network driver" message...

Running a XP VM on MacBook.

I'm running WinXP SP2 on Parallels 3.0 with 512MB allocated to the vm, with shared networking.

I just came across a post over at MacUpdate (http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php...52&pid=176619), which suggests trashing the contents of C/Program Files/Parallels/Parallels Tools, and then doing a custom reinstallation of the tools WITHOUT "Shared Applications". Has worked for me! Everything working as expected now (although of course I now don't have that functionality).

I've reverted to 2.5 for the moment while this stuff sorts itself out (I depend on Parallels for work), but this seems like it's applicable to my problem too. One thing I noticed when I rebooted after the failed Tools install crashed Parallels was a partial listing of my Macintosh applications in the Shared program group in XP. I don't remember exactly, but somewhere about the first 10 apps were listed properly (with proper icons), and then there were 5 or so listed with generic icons. Of course I have a lot more than 15 or so Macintosh apps on the machine, so that would support the Tools crashing during the Shared Applications component install.

Im having the same problem.
Backed up my previous VM and installed from scratch PD 3.0 and then Win XP Pro.
After the installation of Win...P Tools starts automatically then half way through the setup it crashes.

I tried also to copy the files in to my XP desktop and It produced the same crash half way trough the copy process..I restart my VM and try to set up Ptools using a copy of the files I put on a USB disc and it fails again crashing but this time I see the Tools logo on the tray but I is not installed correctly.


Also PTools does not appear in the Add Remove program window in XP.


Any help...

I installes also using the custom setup option and felt out shared applications and it did finish the installation but after the restart, OSX showd this.
