The activation key cannot be used with current version of PD

I removed the old version of Parallels, rebooted, and installed the new version. Rebooted. But I cannot get my trial to activate with the key that Parallels just emailed me.

"The activation key cannot be used with the current version of Parallels Desktop"

I looked in the FAQ, didn't see this problem. Am I doing something wrong here?
