Two VMs talking to each other.

Hi,

For various reasons I need to have to VMs set up:
- one is a lightweight Domain Controller.
- second is a heavy development / test machine, running Windows Server 2008 R2.

The problem I am having is that the dev machine, for no apparent reason, seemingly loses connectivity with the Domain Controller. ( In case anyone is wondering I am doing SharePoint dev and for what I require I can't let go of the Domain Controller ).

So I am wondering if anyone who works in the same method can comment on their adapter setup and whether they have had any glitches with their experiences. I have read the KBs and have had network connectivity between the two, only to lose without any osx updates, or indeed guess Windows OS updates.

Is there another Domain Controller in the network? How are the network addresses being distributed? DHCP? Is there more than one DHCP server (Parallels by default acts as a DHCP server for VMs)?

I'm guessing the loss of connectivity is due to IP changes.

Thanks for the reply.

There is no other Domain Controllers on the network - I run this setup on my lone Macbook Pro at home. The domain controller talks to the one server VM if that makes sense.

I must admit as a (evidently crap ) dev I don't very much at all about DHCP at all... so I can't answer you question about that. I will look into it... Monday...
 
i work in a similar fashion and i need multiple windows vm to run my applications.
just curious, in which platform do you install parallels for multiple sharepoint vms?
i am planning to take a leap from windows to macbook pro. currently checking if i do the same multiple VMs on macbook pro to know if i can make the leap.

Is there anyway I can make parallels not act as a DHCP server for the VMs?

I've come back to using these two VMs after a week or so, thought I had the problem solved, and surprise/surprise they no longer talk to each other!

Wondering what settings I should use so that the two virtual machines always have the same network settings?
 
Parallels Desktop > Preferences > Advanced > Network: Change Settings
 
Ahhh.... cheers, just googled that too...

I will let you guys know how I get on....

I reverted back to a snapshot to start fresh and windows is now doing it's infamous "do not power off, installing update 1 of a million" thing.... Could be a little while:)
