Use Bonjour to print from XP to USB Printer attached to Airport

For what it's worth, this is what I had to do to get this configuration to work properly. It might save someone from pouring through the forums and wasting a lot of time like I did. Omitted are the number of head scratches, beers etc that aid the thinking process...

Configuration
Parallels 3188
Clean XP Home Installed (never could get XP Pro to install)
Mac Pro with airport
Canon S520 on airport located elsewhere in den
Airport configured to work with my mixed apple/pc home network

On Mac
The printer already worked before i started this (Don't mess with parallels until you confirm this)
The windows print and file sharing are turned on (apple/system preferences/sharing)

Within Parallels
installed the canon printer driver
installed bonjour
usb autoconnect off (shouldn't matter but who knows)
under Devices, make sure Shared Networking is checked.

Now go into Bonjour within XP and select the printer etc. Should work fine.

If you have the problem where the printers seem to disappear within Bonjour after 8-10 seconds, make sure the network setting in parallels (Devices, Network) has Shared Networking selected. I've noticed a couple of times that when I first bring parallels/XP up, the networking takes a few minutes to get itself worked out.

I would imagine enough people are trying to do this, it should be specifically spelled out somewhere in the documentation.

For what it's worth as a new convert to mac's, there is a similarity with PC's. Messing with these types of issues is measured in hours and days ;-)
 
I managed to print to my Airport-connected Brother MFC 4800 using the following instuctions in my mac OS environment as well as Bonjour for Windows in my VM

Open the "Printer Setup Utility".
Delete the existing Brother printer from the list.
Select Add Printer....
Select "IP Printing" from the connect type drop down list.
In "Printer Type" please select "Socket/HP Jet Direct".
Enter the IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and select the Brother Printer Model from the Printer Model drop down list.
The printer should now print.
 
No dice with Bonjour printing

I have installed Bonjour printing for XP and I can see the list of my OSX printers. However, after I select one using the wizard and I get to the dialog that says click "Finish", I immediately get the message "The arguments are invalid" to which I click OK, and then I get the message "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I am the only user defined in XP and it is has administrator privs.

I asked Parallels support about this and they suggested using the Generic Postscript drivers instead of the manufacturers (did that, same result). Then they recommended that I give up on Bonjour and just define the printers to Windows and turn on Windows sharing in OSX (I would rather use Bonjour if possible).

Can anyone help me get Bonjour printing to work?

Printer sharing is on. As it must be since I'm seeing a list of all the Bonjour printers.
