Hello All,

Running Parallels Desktop 6 on a new 21-inch iMac. The SD card reader isn't showing up on the Windows 7 side. Is there something I need to do to get it to show?

I have the same problem - this question has been hanging in the air for long, but nobody from the team seem to care
 
Since the card reader is not a USB device, no window "Where do you want to connect the Device?" will appear. In your case the SD card is inserted to the built-in Mac OS X reader, therefore you should add it as a Shared Folder to the virtual machine in the Sharing pane (Virtual Machine Configuration > Options > Sharing > Custom Folders)

After posting, I figured out how to add the Mac's built-in SD Card reader to the VM as a shared drive. Thanks, though!

Good to hear, but as I (as others in this thread) have the same problem, it would be very kind and helpful, if you'd share your finding with us :-)
 
@martiko: I just paved my Mac and haven't reinstalled Parallels, yet. So, I can't give you the specific steps at the moment. But, I can say that when you insert an SD card into the built-in SD card slot on your Mac, it mounts as a disk in OS X. From that point on, sharing the SD card with Parallels is just like sharing any other disk that is mounted to your Mac. Perhaps Parallels help can walk you through the steps.

Alternatively, since I needed Windows to recognize the SD card reader (in order for the software I was using to see it), I tried plugging in an external USB-based card reader. That worked flawlessly. As soon as I plugged it in (with Parallels running), Parallels asked which operating system should get the device. I selected Windows, and all was well.

Thank you for your explanation. To access the card via Mac-Share works finde, I hoped that there is a way to access the card reader directely (e.g. to format a card from windows).
As this obviously does not work (which is a bit frustrating, considering, that this is version 7 of PD...) I will also use the work-around with a USB-Card-Reader.
 
I realize that it's been a couple of years since your post, BUT: I was able to get Parallels Windows to see the SD card as a custom folder after several tries, but in the process I created two folders that are listed under Computer in Windows, but don't actually exist. I can rename them, but I cannot move or delete or disconnect them. How do I take out the trash?
