Failed to detect operating system installed?

Okay, just installed Parallels 6, using the latest build (6.0.12092.670880) I downloaded this morning. Activated and fired it up, then tried to import my Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) VM that I use under VMWare.

Upon trying to convert, I get this message:

"Failed to detect the operating system installed in the virtual machine. Do you want to convert it anyway?

The resulting virtual machine may become unusable after the conversion."

I tried it anyway, and the VM failed to start, saying there was no operating system.

Not a good way to start with this program. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Running OS X 10.6.8 on a 17" MacBook Pro with dual core i7 and 8GB of RAM, as well as plenty of disk space to hold the new VM.

The attached is what happens when I attempt to start the new VM (after Parallels tells me it successfully converted the file). I checked, and the new VM package is 1.1 GB in size, while the VMWare Fusion VM package is 42GB.

Latest update: based on some searching it seems some advice involved uninstalling VMWare Tools from the VM. I made a copy of the VM, uninstalled Tools from that VM, and tried again to import it into Parallels. Same problem, so that's not the answer.

So, has anyone ever successfully imported one of these? Does the tech team read these? Should I be seeking a refund?

Try unchecking "split disks"

If you are importing from a VMware Fusion 3, try opening it up in VMware, going to settings on that VM, and unchecking "split disks".

My apologies: this was eventually resolved by a trouble ticket and I neglected to follow up here.

Yes, the 2GB splits that Fusion imposes by default was the problem, and tech support acknowledged that issue needs to be pointed out much more clearly in the supplied documentation.
