I'm used to used the Shift, Alt and Ctrl keys as modifiers when I use the mouse to drag files/folders from one explorer window top another and they are not working in Parallels 5. For example, I would hold the Shift key to move the file, the alt key to create a shortcut in the destination folder etc. (I might have the keys wrongly identified). I tried looking at keyboard mappings in Parallels pref's. On the plus side I learned about a right-click drag and drop options. Does anyone know how to get the keyboard modifiers working? Thanks!
solution found I think I've found the answer. In the VM configuration, go to Options>Services and select "optimize modifier keys for games".
Glad if that worked. It's not still not working for me, how I need it to. Ever since Parallels 4 I have not been able to use keyboard modifiers in the following circumstances: Pressing Ctrl, Alt or Shift on the keyboard WHILE Triggering an F key with the Mouse. I RELY on modifying the mouse buttons with keyboard modifiers in EVERY professional design program I use. Adobe, & CAD/CAM. This is making Parallels really a pain in the ass.... and I otherwise LOVE its speed and configurability. Of course, if the whole shortcut is EITHER on the keyboard only, or entirely mapped to the mouse buttons, it works. However, it's as if the keyboard and mouse (through Parallels) can't speak to the OS at the same time, ... Their combined inputs are not added together (like Ctrl+ shift with left hand, and Click with mouse) but are treated separately. Anyone who has made progress on this, please post.
SefP, I see this is an old post, but did you figure it out? I find that the modifier keys work even if the icon doesn't change to show that you're copying/moving or creating a shortcut.
After posting above, I tried the "Optimize modifier keys for games" and that fixed the problem completely. I see the proper behavior and icon.
