Release mouse - different behavior

When moving from an XP VM to OSX, ctrl-alt must be depressed to release the mouse. However, when moving from a Win7 64-bit VM, ctrl-alt is not necessary and the mouse moves easily from the Win7 window to the OSX desktop.

Why is that and is there any way to get the XP VM to behave as the Win7 VM?
 
I found a posting elsewhere on this forum that suggested going into device manager, mouse, update driver, don't search and selecting the "Parallels Mouse Synchronization Driver" instead of the "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse". Sorry I don't have the exact reference but hopefully this will get you going.
