Problem with Installation and Installing on more than one MAC

I am having problems installing my Parallels program with Windows XP. I recently bought an IMAC
and a Macbook, as well as Parallels (for Intel machines) and want to install on both; however, I am currently trying to install on my IMAC and having problems.

I followed the quick start-up guide procedures and have created a virtual machine; I have been unable to add Windows to it. When I try to Power on (as the instructions say) to add Windows to the virtual machine the computer goes to a screen that says I need to restart my computer by holding down the power button or pressing the restart button. I can not get out of the screen without shutting off the computer. Then when I try and open up the Parallells VM again it states the configuration is in use by another instance of Parallels Desktop. I have not other instance. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall; deleted and recreated the VM and it continues to happen everytime I try and enter the VM or turn the power on.
So I really need help installing the program properly. Also, because I have both an IMAC and Macbook, I am wondering if I can install the program and Windows XP Pro on both computers? The guy at the store said I could but when I looked at the license agreement for XP it says I can not; if not, can I purchase the activation key at a cheaper price?? Does anyone know which is true. Also can I use Parallels on more than one Mac??

You might have some bad memory. Have that checked first. The error you're seeing is very often the result of a Mac hardware error.

The parallels licensing and Windows licensing requires each machine have a purchased license. Even if you don't run them at the same time. It's not nearly as expensive as buying a Solaris 9 license for a 64 processor Sun Enterprise 10K purchased on eBay. That's worth googling just for the laughs.
 
I just bought the computer and all I have done is download Office for Mac and transfer some songs. How could it have a hardware problem already?? I do not know a lot about computers and so what would I do to check out that problem??

Take it to the store you bought it from and tell them it has odd problems and you'd like them to test the memory. While they do that go get a latte or capuchino, or buy a nice mountain bike. When you get back they will tell you you have a healthy system and it was covered under warranty. They may even offer you a breath mint to cover your coffee breath. Relax - new systems have failures all the time and it is often the result of bumping around in the back of a delivery truck while on the way from China to your kitchen table.

What version of Parallels are your running? I'm presuming, since you bought it at a store, that it's a version prior to Build 1970. Versions prior to that build are not compatible with your Core 2 Duo based Macs.

In Parallels, use the Check for Updates command in the Help menu to get the latest stable version (1970). Install it, reboot, and try again.

A Parallels license is valid for only one computer. If you want to install it on two machines, you'll need to purchase a second license. (You can do that online as all you need is the key.)

As to XP Pro, I believe the retail edition allows installation on two machines. The OEM package, however, can only be installed on one machine. But, take my advice here with a large grain of salt as I use the MSDN editions exclusively.

No version of Windows has ever been licensed to install on more than one machine. You need a license for each machine. (This also includes the Volume license which is commonly mistakenly referred to as a "Corporate" license).

Perhaps you are thinking of Microsoft Office which allows installation on a desktop machine and also on a laptop machine that are owned and used by the same person.
