Firefox/Java crashes in VM

I have Firefox 1.5 running in the VM. I decided to run some of the speedtests at dslreports.com to see the throughput to the VM. I had to install Java into Firefox and that seemed to go smoothly - just like every other time I've done it natively on various platforms.

However, as soon as I try to run ANY Java applet, Firefox crashes immediately. Can anyone else verify this?

Double-clicking on the Java control panel applet also immediately crashes.

I just installed Firefox to test this and it's working fine. I can use the test applet at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml with no problems.

Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 on the virtual machine.
