Convert Virtual PC 7 disk image for use by Parallels?

I just ordered my new Intel based mac, for a long time I've been using Virtual PC 7 (Win2K inside separately purchased and installed).

Ideally, I would like a way to convert my Virtual PC disk image over to whatever format Parallels uses so I have my apps already installed...

I couldn't find if this was possible from the manual or from my attempts to search this forum.

The firewire transfer that comes on the Mac is great but it brings all the crap you should have deleted or uninstalled. Still a great feature and especially useful in the work place where most people don't download every new file they can find on the web or try to run 3 operating systems.

Even if you could convert VPC image I don't think you really want too. You really want to start with a clean install of XP. I was able to use the registration number I got with the VPC XP image after calling 10 times. If you keep trying long enough Microsoft will connect you to a human in India that will give you a number. It should be easy to transfer you data from a working VPC computer.

There's a shot in hell that a sysprep will allow the conversion.....

Even if it does work - it's going to take some "tinkering"

I've yet to try it, but here's my plan.

1) Run Sysprep on the Windows OS
2) Use Ghost to make a "drive image"
3) Create a new Parallels hard drive
4) Use Ghost to write the sysprep'd image to the Parallels hard drive.

Now, I know what you're saying - why the hell would I try this....
1) I've got a hell of alot installed on that Virtual PC as it's my "dev box"
2) I'm a complete GEEK.

I'll let you know if this works out - however, I'm pretty sure that the underlying hardware difference is going prevent it from happening....

Actually I installed ghost into my VMware programming setup on a pc and then restored the ghosted image to a parallels disk on a Mac. No problem from it. Be sure to first uninstall the VMware tools before creating the ghosted image. Then install the parallels tools after restore.
 
I tried using sysprep to convert an existing XP OS on MS VPC to Parallels - no luck.

Apparently the HAL is too different between the Parallels and the MS VPC.

This completely sucks. I may try again with a different XP OS ihnstallation - but still, I suspect I'll have to suck it up and just freaking re-install windows....
