Printer Installation

I can't get my HP3055 printer to work within Windows, using Parallels. I understand I need to stop the VM before messing with a parallel port change, but when I stop the VM, Windows stops too. So how can I stop the VM and yet perform these steps?

Do you mean you can not access the VM Configuration Editor?

I can get to the editor with no problem, but I'm not sure if I have the right configuration. I set the printer to "Parallel", I've checked "Use Printer", also checked "Enable" and "Connect at startup". I also re-installed the HP printer drivers under Windows, but cannot seem to find them under "Programs" like I do in a Windows machine....or am I sharing the drivers I previously installed under Mac? Not sure where to go next?
 
So here's where I'm at. I made the HP8500 my default printer and called for a test page. It proceeded to print a never-ending bunch of one line gobblygook along the top of each page. So I turned off the printer. But I think this tells me it sees the printer through the port. Do you agree?

So I still am troubled by the fact that I cannot see the HP program listed in my program group. Shouldn't I see it there? I do with a Windows machine. I did re-install the printer using the HP supplied disc. I said it installed OK.

Now I don't know what to try next......
 
Slabman, if you are using Parallel Port (see the article linked above), you should not install the native printer's drivers. So you should now uninstall these drivers on Windows side, connect the printer to your Mac and make sure it works on Mac side, then follow the instructions from the article.
