I have not been able to boot into the VM as it comes up with unexpected error. Of course I am worried as I can't access anyone from parallels to help The updates don't seem to work they hang and the machine is far from fast as they guys in the apple shop sold me the benefits on it. Is there any way I can get diisk image and back and load onto a non mac machine as I am worried I will lose all my work on the mac OS?
Thanks John it is great to have a response from someone from parallels. I have got parallels to work once again by uninstalling it about two or 3 times and restarting the machine crossing fingers and hoping for the best. I am extremely worried about shuting it down as most times I shut down I have the error. The error is when it first tries to start the parallel application it states "parallels has had an unexpected an error" It provides three button choices "ignore" "Relaunch" "reset and relanch" in the past the reset and relaunch has worked after multiple attempts and so I was not overly worried about the bug. Now it is worrying as it has often taken hours to get it to boot up. I went into apple and they suggested running on boot camp instead but I am not sure about how or if I can use the xp.hdd image from parallels in boot camp? They suggested spotlight search or the web? I cannot back up the windows component as time machine seems to take over the external hard drives ? The image is backed up via time machine but I would love to transfer the image on parallels xp.hdd to be put onto another machine and run it as a windows in native or none mac mode, is this possible? Cheers Worried
Please check folder Documents/Parallels or Library/Parallels or MacHD/USers/Shared/Parallels - you will see folder like Microsoft Windows XP (or whatever name you gave it to him), copy the whole folder to another machine There will be folder in that folder winxp.hdd /in that folder you will see winxp{somenumbers}.hds file, if you create new Virtual Machine in Parallels workstation you can add that hdd Also you can access that Virtual Machine across the network, from Mac and start it from there Is this you are looking for?
John This is not what I want, please understand I am doing my best to not be negative about being sold a product that works 50% of the time. Plain and simply I have 1(one) mac machine running leapord OS no network running but with macOS and parallels. I have built up a great windows environment for my business applications over mny months. They no longer work due to the bugs in parallels and may be related to mac updates. I now cannot shutdown parallels as everytime I do it will not restart / relaunch whatever you want to call it I do not get the ability to start XP. I have started to look for what I can do n the web and it is evident that I do not have parallels image tool part of the software? Also I don't have the auto updates working even afer registering a few times with parallels? How do I get these things working ? Can you provide links etc. as this may help immediately. John what I am really after is for parallels to work properly so I don't have to go to the expense and time of trying to get something else to do the job after already paying $150 for parallels. Is it to much to ask? Last night I again had the torture of the VM machine needing to reboot after a hang up and it not relaunching and having to reinstall the VM again and again until it worked. Please help me as it it is really pushing me to the brink of insanity. I have been accessing this forum from parallels for some reason when I try to access it from the mac environment eg from safari in the mac environment when parallels VM won't boot it won't recognise me or allow me to log in ? Can you please help me I am a wreck after trying to get this to work I have a lot of information on my machine and I really can't afford to spend hours a day trying to get around the bugs in parallels everyday. My machine is waiting for a reboot on my virus software as I write and I am torn between being at risk of the outdated virus protection and rebooting my machine - you see my daily worries. I know where the .hdd file is so thanks for that info. What I was wondering was can I use this image file in something other than parallels or convert it to a native windows envrionment so I don't lose all my hard work for configuring my windows environment / VMmachine over the past months. You see I am worried that at this rate parallels may never work again or the company gets significant backlash to the bugs and it goes out of business leaving me stuck with a .hdd file that I cannot use? Essentially as the .hdd is an image of my windows environment can anything else use it so a copy is a back up? Is there help in Australia I can contact? I am worried ? Cheers worried
