Dear Parallelers I am setting up XP professional SP1 on a MacBook Pro. As of now all OSX and Parallels software is current. I have attempted to use a USB modem - XP and Parallels see it, but it will not work. The Vendor's site states that this modem in incompatible with Mac hardware, so I intend to purchase one that is listed as being compatible. Question: Does anyone currently have a USB modem that is actually working out of XP on a MacBook Pro? If yes, I'd really appreciate the modem details. Dialing up from the Mac side and sharing the network is not an option, as our corporate network people will not release the VPN client for Mac users. Many thanks in advance. Perhaps if you get a Mac compatible modem, you can dial from the Mac and connect to the VPN from the guest. As soon as the modem connects, you have an Internet connection so you should be able to access it from the guest before login. One issue may be timeout, but your IT folks may be willing to work with you on that. You may need a modem with an Ethernet connection rather than USB. I haven't tried using a modem with Parallels, but it does work with an Ethernet connection so that could be the solution you are looking for.
USB Modem Hi Thanks for responding. As I indicated in my email, I am looking for a dial up solution from XP in a MacBook Pro so that external users can connect to our corporate network via VPN - this is a dial up solution only - directly into our organisation - ie connecting via the internet is not an option. Dialing up from the Mac side is also not an option. Our IT people will not release the VPN client for Mac users as OS X is not supported or accredited for our organisation. Therefore, the only VPN connection available to us is to dial up from a PC. Therefore, what I need are details of any USB modems which Parallels users have successfully used to connect XP running on a MacBook Pro to a dialup account. Thanks in anticipation. Regards Dave
