Last Saturday, I purchased a black MacBook and upgraded the RAM to 2GB. I use a WEP 128-bit key encrypted Linksys WRT54G wireless router connected to a DSL modem for the MacBook's wireless connection. For some reason, whenever I put the computer to sleep and wake it the wireless router increments the IP address sequence and assigns it to the MacBook.

This has never happened with any of the other Macs I have used with this router which include a dual 1GHz G4 Quicksilver PowerMac and a 1.67Ghz G4 PowerBook. Normally, upon waking these other Macs from sleep they will retain the same IP address which they had as there are no other IP requests to the router. This is the behavior I would expect. However, with the MacBook a problem arises wherein port forwarding needs to be reset every time the MacBook wakes from sleep, since it is assigned a new IP address.

I have installed and setup a Windows XP Pro SP2 Virtual Machine via Parallels RC1. I'm not sure why I mention that, but I have my suspicions that this software may be the culprit. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or have a better idea of how to resolve this issue? By the way that Parallels Compressor utility is pretty nifty--it took my VM and shrunk it to 975MB from >2GB.

    Thanks.
