After reviewing Windows 7 and believing the Adverts re Apple vs Windoes I decided to move to Apple. In doing so though I missed some of the things I liked about Windows and thus bought Parallels however my experience is not good. I download a file (a song for example) but can't move it into my Music directory on my server. I get an error and it's so verbose. "This action can not be completed because an error has occurred". Wow... what error?? I have software that simply won't run in Windows under Parallels. My cpu runs away like crazy and the only way to stop it is to reboot Windows. I like the Mac but dont like Parallels. I'm told I can get a free upgrade to 5.0 from my current 4.0. I imagine because of all the errors in 4.0. I fill out the forms do all I'm supposed to; get an Email back telling me I qualify and have been approved and I'll receive instructions within 24 hours..... that was days ago. I have asked for Support but did not hear back.
First, let's understand what happening with your CPU. Could you please start PD, run your Windows, wait untill it will be started, keep it idle for 1-2 min, then go to Parallels Desktop menu -> Help -> Report a Problem. Please tell me the Problem ID (here or in a private message)
Reply.... I received my update to Parallels 5.0. As per the document I followed the instructions on the screen and loaded the application. I had stopped Parallels 4.0 before the install. When Parallels 5.0 finished it refused to start again running my cpu up to over 100% and hung the machine. I could not stop it. "Force Quit" would not work. I had to quit OS X. When I started up again it had trashed my entire Parallels install. I had to re-install Parallels 5.0 and Windows XP and do all the download. I had to clean out my Mac manually to get rid of all the software left all over the machine to get Parallels to install. As of now I have reloaded everything and it, so far, is running fine.
An Update I now have Parallels 5.0 up and running. I have worked for days on this What doesn't work: 1) Roxio Photosuite 8 will not run in Parallels 5.0 2) WMAconvert will not run in Parallels 5.0 3) When you set your screen on a Mac for it's Max. resolution (1280 x 800) and then switch to Coherence, that resolution is not available to any application that requires a resolution higher than 1024 x 728. Some of the new Parallels 5.0 is actually very good. It appears a bit faster and the "Maclook" is nice.
An Update Oh... and one more thing.... this issue of the run away cpu has been documented all accross the Internet and all over your site. Why have you not addressed this and fixed it???
Michael, I could not find any support requests from you in our system (at least, with the same email address you used for forum registration). Can you please provide me with ticket # so that I can check it?
I filled in the information requested and then sent it but the system didn't give me a number. Similar to when I reply in the forum and then get the "security token missing" and then it doesn't send. (Just happened again) Even so can one of you at least answer my other question(s).
Hello Michael, I have created support ticket for you, you should receive notification in mailbox about it.
Reported multiple times I have Reported a Problem multiple times now always the same, the run away cpu but I have never ever had a response from the Parallels Support folks. Why is your support so awful? It just doesn't exist it seems at all. Why does the cpu run away so frequently? It seems to be entering a loop and I have to reboot the VM to get it to stop. It runs for a while then runs away again.
Dear Michael, assumingly you have sent us problem reports which are not considered as support request. By the way, when proplem report is being sent, a note appears 'Note that this report won't be considered as a customer support request'. You set the ticket that I have created for you to 'resolved' state and it got closed in a while. Really, if any assistance from our side is required, let me know and I will create new support ticket.
Well, after working with (more like fighting with) Parllels Desktop for weeks now (I hate to give up) I FINALLY have it running properly. I'm now running Build 5.0.9308 Revision 543312 which ws released Dec. 18th of 2009 and it fixed the problems I was having previously. I was originally using a 2.0Mhz Mac and changed to 2.4Mhz processor, 7200 rpm HDD, and upgrded to 4GB of RAM. I then also moved my Windows XP to Coherence Mode and made it a vanilla version selecting "Configure for Performance" in the Windows XP System... after all you can't really see it anyway in Coherence Mode.... and now it all works wonderfully well and just flies.... well sort of.
