While working with Win 10 under Parallels 10 (and now 11), Windows launched with a black screen. I have looked at the suggested solutions here and they all start with start Windows in Safe mode, which requires a change to the Boot Order screen. That screen cannot be changed until the vm is suspended. When I shut it down, the screen goes away so I can't change the boot order. Also I don't have an .iso on a DVD as the Win 10 .iso that I have is larger than 5 GB. I instead have the Win 10 setup on an 8GB USB, which is what I installed it from. I tried to run setup.exe from that hoping that I could repair Windows and all I got was a black screen. I apparently have to kill parallels to suspend the virtual machine to make configuration changes, but this kills the configuration dialog. Any ideas that hopefully will allow me to run Windows without completely destroying the configuration?
I think this follow step will give you a solution - Reinstall your video driver Right-click the taskbar, and then click Start Task Manager. Click the Processes tab, click explorer.exe, and then click End Process. Click File, and then click New Task (Run). In the Open text box, enter explorer.exe, and then click OK. Click the Start button , enter device manager in the search box, and then, in the search results, click Device Manager. Double-click Display adapters, right-click your display device, click Update Driver Software, and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears. Thanks for your answer, but I have a totally black screen with only my mouse pointer. There is no taskbar or any Windows control; only the Mac menu. I Think that I'll have to totally remove Windows or even Parallels and then install from a bare Mac chassis. Any better ideas?
Chris. That worked. When I reset it reported a problem with the "Sound Device" and sent a Problem Report off to Parallels. I'm glad I waited for a reply; I was envisioning reinstalling Windows or more. Thanks again
Paul, how do you reset the VM? From the Parallels Desktop? I resume Windows 7 and it goes to the black screen faster than I can click reset.
