I recently bought a new MacBook Pro, installed a new version of Parallels on it and created a new VM in Windows 7. All updates as well as SP 1 installed. There's a few irritations I can't fix: Internet explorer has the Norton toolbar jammed up against the command bar so you can't really use it properly (screenshot attached) I can't resize the cons in the explorer command bar - the right click/customise meny is supposed to give you the option of resizing, but it doesn't appear like the help menu says it should. On Windows startup, instead of getting a temporary full screen to log in, I get a downsized screen with black bordesr and a really tiny login field. I had none of these problems with my old mac and VM. Any advice appreciated. Tom
My guess is that your new MBP has retina display. The default settings for Windows Vista/7/8 VMs is to use higher resolution when available. To adjust Windows for higher DPI, Parallels Tools set DPI scaling in Windows to 199%. This works fine most of the time, except that some applications can't handle DPI scaling well and mess up their UIs. Obviously, Norton toolbar falls into that category. You can turn off retina support for your VM to make it look exactly as in PD7 here: VM Configuration > Hardware > Video > Resolution: Scaled. You'll need to shut down and restart Windows for DPI scaling setting to revert back to 100%. Regarding tiny log in field, I haven't seen such a problem before, will try to reproduce. Anyway, this too should be fixed by the above setting.
