SL 10.6.4 on MBP with Parallels Desktop 5.0.9370 Revision 589435 and Windows XP SP3. All the latest Mac and Windows updates. At home, at work, at friends' houses, etc. my Windows XP VMs perform well. Now I am at a new location, where trying to even start a VM (which ran perfectly at home last night, no changes since then) it is like watching grass grow. Sometimes, when I am lucky, I can browse "My Computer", start Firefox and even -- if I am very lucky -- open the control panel. But if I try to run any other application, the new application and eventually the entire Windows session hangs. All the apps on my Mac, both those that connect to the internet and those that don't are working as expected. I can live -- for limited time -- without network access in Windows. So I turned off the Mac's firewall, the Windows firewall and AV and shut off airport: no effect. Another VM on this same Mac is connected to a Windows domain, whose name is something like "xyz.local". When connected to that server, NOTHING works. When I login to that VM without logging into Windows domain, the VM works almost as well as the VMs without a connection to that server (not very well at all). I would like to reiterate that my VMs work very well when I am at a different location. I have been using Windows since version 2 and develop Windows software for a living. I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a newbie or moron. I have never seen behavior like this from Windows: working in one location and not another. The PCs at this location are not having any problems. I am at a total loss for what is causing this and how to fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
