On my home Mac, I get a nice c:windows drive mounted on the Mac desktop. Works great. On my work Mac, I don't get this. I've got application sharing enabled and folder sharing (both ways) and security set to medium. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels. I'm running build 5160. I've verified that Finder will mount "connected servers". What am I missing?? How do I get this to work?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

Go into your config file, and check the following:
Shared Folder -> Mount virtual disks to Mac Desktop

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have this checked. Have checked and unchecked this many times. Same effect.

Hmm... Have you submitted a trouble ticket to Parallels?

Not yet. I just realized that I can't open the hdd image in Parallels Explorer either. I wonder if the two are related. I've run chkdsk in Windows (had no errors) and done a "compact" operation from within the VM with Parallel Tools. Neither had any problem. The VM boots fine (XP) and runs fine. Just can't open it in Parallels Explorer nor can I get it to mount on the desktop while running. Parallels Explorer just hangs when I try to open the hdd image and I have to force quit it. The VM runs XP on NTFS.

Bizzare... I would recommend the trouble ticket.

    Hello AaronWeis,

Some of your work Mac account settings probably block disk mounting. You should ask your work IT support first.
Submitting a trouble ticket is also a good idea (Eru Ithildur is right as usual).

    Best regards,
    Xenos

It's a good idea, however others at work can mount their Parallels disk with no problem. I'm still stumped. I did open a ticket with Parallels, but that process seems to move slowly.

Could you specify, which Mac OS do you use at home and which one is installed at work?
I'd also appreciate if you send me your e-mail as Personal Message for we could check you request in our Support request system.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Both Home and Work are MacBook Pro's (17" and 15" respectively) running Tiger 10.4.10.

AaronWeis, please send me some information.

On your Mac find Console window (Finder -> Appications -> Utilities -> Console). Tick "Logs" then Clear. After that start your VM. When Windows is running, in Logs copy console.log and system.log. For this on the Mac toolbar choose File -> Save a copy as. Send me the files.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

AaronWeis, thank you very much for the logs – they’ve been really helpful!
As logs show, MacFUSE program, acting in disk mounting, doesn’t work properly.
You should either reinstall Parallels Desktop (see PD User Guide)
    or install MacFUSE 0.4.0 (http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/).

    Best regards,
    Xenos

I have both reinstalled Parallels as well as downloading and installing MacFUSE 0.4. There is no change in behavior. Still unable to mount the virtual disk nor does the Windows disk show up on the desktop.

What MacFUSE do you have at your home computer?

I have not installed MacFUSE separately on the home computer. The home machine only has whatever MacFUSE that was installed with Parallels. The difference is that the home machine has been through an update of Parallels. It originally had v2, and went through the 2.5 to 3.0 Parallels upgrade cycle. The work computer is new and just got a clean install of Parallels 3.0 (5160). The work computer had never had MacFUSE installed separately until last night, when I installed it as part of the fix suggested.

Let's try the following. When your VM is running on your Mac toolbar click Go -> Go to Folder. Type "tmp/". Open folders in the window. Can you see your C disk there?
Could you also send us the output with the .pvs file which you may find in Mac HD -> Documents -> Parallels?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Interesting. No "C" folder in /tmp. See attached screenshot (tmp contents.png). However, while digging for the .pvs file (attached zip file), I found a symlink in the Parallels directory called "C" and it points to a directory /tmp/396/C (see attached Symlink details.png). Sure enough, I found that one buried in /tmp/396, but the contents of it are empty (see attached Empty C.png).

In 396 folder you'll see your C disk. You can work with it. Our testers are trying to find out now, why it's not seen on your desktop.

I understand what you are saying, but while the VM is running, /tmp/396/C is still empty. It doesn't mount, or it's mounted elsewhere. See attached (Empty C with VM running.png)
