Windows desktop icons will not stay put when I shut down.

Using Parallels Desktop 8 (latest build) on an iMac with OSX 10.8.4 and Windows XP Home 2002 with Service Pack 3 and up to date on all upgrades

I have arranged my Windows desktop icons to my own satisfaction several times. Yet, when I shut down windows, it often doesn't seem to remember my preferences, and when I start the VM and start Windows the next time.... or just restart windows because Parallels is still running... frequently (but not always) the icons are all bunched on the left side of the screen (in an order I have yet to fathom). How can I prevent this from happening?

FYI (if this is related) Whenever I start windows in the VM it first opens minimized to the upper left quadrant of my screen (the mac desktop consumes the rest of the screen). When I click the + to Maximize, the Windows desktop goes full screen in what I think is an 800 X 600 resolution (at least it's really big on the screen) ....and then quickly corrects itself to 1920 X 1002 screen resolution (the full size of my iMac.
