I have Parallels set to open my Mac browser in all cases. However, any time I open a link from within a Windows application it will only and always launch the Windows default browser, not the Mac browser. Why is this and how can I get it to launch my Mac browser?
Hello jvanclute. Let us ensure that Parallels Tools are properly installed. Please try and install Parallels Tools now and let us know if that helps.
Turns out Toolbox was not activated because I recently needed to run Parallels on my laptop for a day. I have reactivated it on my Desktop, but still only the Windows browser will launch. Do I need to relaunch Parallels in order for it to take effect or something?
So even after a reboot and with Parallels tools running, the Windows browser still launches, not the mac browser. Very frustrating.
Please follow the steps from this Microsoft article to set the default browser in Windows and check if it helps.
I'm afraid you may not have understood my issue. I'm not looking to set a default Windows browser. I want to use my Mac browser, always, in all cases, including when I click a link from a Windows app, or if a Windows app launches a web browser for any reason. This should be possible, but so far I can't get it to work. Windows always launches the Windows browser, period.
Hi @jvanclute, Parallels Desktop has Shared Internet Applications Tool where it enables you to specify default Internet browsers, including those installed in the virtual machine, for different types of Internet pages. Please follow the steps below to configure Shared Internet Applications Tool: * Set Safari browser as a default browser on Mac. * Open virtual machine window (Do not click Start). * Open virtual machine configuration > switch to Options tab > Web & Email > Web pages -> Open in Mac, * Email > Open in Mac, * More Applications > Open in Mac for all options.
The VM was already set to use Mac for the browser, but it simply would not work. For some reason, setting Safari as the default Mac browser, THEN setting the VM again to use Mac for the browser, then putting my default Mac browser back to what it was, has fixed the issue. Now when a link is requested in Windows, my Mac browser choice launches. Very strange but I'm glad it's finally working. Thanks!
