Hi there! I've just installed Win98SE in a VM, including IE6 SP1 and all the updates, ranging from DirectX9 to WMP9, everything running fine so far. I need the Win98-VM to get some very old games working (which won't work in XP's compatibility mode either), but after doing all the updates I don't seem to get any DirectX in this VM at all. The Dxdiag-Tool is showing no availability with the current Parallels Video Drivers, only DirectDraw seems to work. Did I missed something? Are there any newer drivers available for Win98SE to use DirectX-based software at all? Oh, I'm using Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5608 on OS X 10.5.3, by the way. Regards, Dirk
Hi, Make sure to enable the DirectX support manually in the VM configuration in order for it to work. Open the VM configuration - click on the "Video" option and make sure that "Enable DirectX support" is checked. If it does not help then you can try reinstalling Parallels tools. When Parallels Desktop is stared click on Actions > Install Parallels tools and follow installation wizard in VM.
Enable DirectX Shaders seems to be grayed out for 98. Is this normal? I was hoping to be able to play Fighting Force again. It doesn't work in XP and hasn't got a Mac port.
Yes it is you cannot install Direct X 8 on Windows, it is not supported, in Windows 98, please see Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf on page 111
Bogus... I guess there probably aren't any plans for it either with XP being the OS of choice when it comes to Windows. Thank you for the quick reply though. Aside from the lack of DirectX and Coherence support for 9x Parallels is a truly great program.
