I'm testing out the trial version of parallels on 2.66 core 2 duo mac. I've assigned 1.5 gb of memory to the windows virtual machine (out of a total of 6gb). When I first installed parallels, it asked if I wanted to optimize the mac or windows side. Apparently I made the wrong choice when I picked mac. The mouse moves quickly but there is an ungodly amount of lag time between a click and any response (it's basically unuseable). In going over the Parallels menu choices I couldn't find an option to change it back so that the windows side is optimized.

Other issues are that the floppy drive isn't showing up and the dvd drive has vanished.
Those issues are moot if the system continues to be sluggish.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Menu "Virtual Machine" > "Configure" > Tab "Options" > "Optimization" > Optimise for Mac OS X applications.

Also check how much memory your VM has been assigned; try to assign 1 MB to it (the VM needs to be off if you want to change the value).

As far as I know there is no floppy drive as long as you don't mount a floppy image. Try inserting a CD or DVD and "binding" that disk to the VM ("Devices" -> "CD/DVD").

Here's my problem... everything with Windows 7 is slow! I found that by turning off Aero and using standard Windows 7 style adds some speed, but some thing, like especially opening MS Word or Excel, just takes forever. I am optimized for Windows and for Better Performamance. I have 3gb of RAM and am running two processors.

    Any other ideas?

While it may sound counterintuitive, try optimizing for Mac OS X, assign only 1 processor, and assign only 1024 MB to the virtual machine.

I'll try this one step at a time. I know I have way too much going on the Windows side to use only 1024MB... but I switched to Mac optimization and will move back to one processor and see what happens.

    Anyone else have ideas?
