Hello everyone... I'm a new Parallels user and I'm having problems running Windows 2000 as a guest O/S. I've read through the forums, but nothing seems to match my exact problem, I'm hoping maybe that I've just done something wrong. I've created the VM using the wizard, installed the O/S, everything works great until the first reboot, then it crashes. It gives me the option to press F8 (which does work) but allowing the start up to continue or using any of the options brings up the following error right as the progress bar ends (and the graphical logo is about to appear): "Fatal error occured in the Virtual Machine Monitor" I've sent my logs off to Parallels, but I'm hoping this is something rather simple. I've disabled acceleration, disabled all virtual devices (except for the hard disk and RAM) and I still have this issue. Any thoughts? By the way, I can install Linux or XP and that works great, it seems to just be a problem with Win2k. JP
So am I alone in this, or am I missing something... I like the program, but I find it odd that this continues to be a problem for a fairly common version of Windows. JP
I have win2k installed in parallels and it works fine. Are you sure your copy is not corrupt? My host is suse sled 10.0 but win 2k works in open suse from 10.0 on up to the latest release. It also works fine in other linux hosts that i have tried. don
I don't believe my copy is corrupt, I can fire up a Linux or Windows XP VM just fine, but try to boot a Windows 2000 one and it fails right before loading the splash screen. My host is Windows 2000 SP4, by the way. JP
I use w2k guest every day. It can work. Can you describe the host environment, the version of Parallels, how you have the VM configured and whether the Parallels Tools have been installed in the VM, and if you've ever updated the Parallels package (i.e., was the VM created using the version of Parallels you're using now)?
The guest machine is an HP/Compaq DC7600 with a 3.4Ghz processor, 2 GB RAM and a 80GB hard disk running Windows 2000 (without any problems, I might add). I am using the latest parallels build from the download section of the website. I cannot get far enough to install Parallels tools. I am creating the VM on this machine with this version of Parallels. It installs fine, but on the first reboot, right before loading the splash screen, it bombs out with an exception. I'm assuming this is parallels way of catching a blue screen (I guess), but it would sure be nice to see exactly what happened, and the parallels logs appear to be worthless. JP
Well, since Parallels support seems, to say the least, lacking, I decided to move on to bigger and better products. VMWare workstation seems to load Windows 2000 just fine, I have had absolutely no problems. This is one product I'll be sure to let everyone know to avoid. JP
