Can I install a Windows 10 VM on a MacBook Pro M5 Max? If so, where do I get the operating system image?

Yes, but not standard Windows 10 (x86).

Apple Silicon Macs (like M5 Max) only support ARM based Windows, so:

    • You can run Windows via Parallels Desktop

    • But officially it's Windows 11 ARM, not Windows 10
    Where to get it:

    • Download from Microsoft:
"Windows 11 ARM Insider Preview" (VHDX image)
    Important:

    • Windows 10 ARM is not officially available for general download or supported on Apple Silicon

    • Parallels is optimized for Windows 11 ARM and is the recommended route
In short: Use Windows 11 ARM from Microsoft, Windows 10 is not practical or supported on M series Macs
